🏗️ Move it! Dig it! Do it! The Iowa Children's Museum is back with their Move it! Dig it! Do it! event with free, fun-filled activities focused on big equipment that moves. Join us on Sunday, October 1st from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the museum for an up-close look at construction vehicles, farming equipment, and emergency vehicles. Check out these vehicles of all shapes and sizes, and make pit stops for games and activities.
❄️ Hibernation Book Sale Prepare for hibernation season with our October book sale! This sale is on Saturday, October 14, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM and will be held at 1122 5th Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240. Get ready to curl up and get cozy with your next great read.
🌿 Books & Botanicals Have lots of old books you aren't sure what to do with? Want to learn a new craft you can re-create with your family and loved ones? Join Antelope Lending Library and The Greenhouse for a fun filled evening of crafting on November 9 from 6:30-8:30 PM at The Greenhouse. Learn how to make BookArt as you enjoy a specially crafted botanical beverage. Register here to reserve your spot at the event. Tickets are $25 per person and include a $3 token to use toward a drink of your choice.

🍎 Back to the Classroom Sale On Saturday, September 9, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM, come to our Back to the Classroom Sale! Everyone is welcome to shop, with a special $5 sale for educators of any kind to take as many books as they'd like. We will also have games, puzzles, and Antelope merchandise for sale. The sale will be held at 1122 5th Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240.
🎒 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County Back to School Bash On August 17, 2023, from 6:00-7:30 PM, Antelope will be taking part in the Back to School Event hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County. More details to come.
✍️ The Village Community Poetry Activity Iowa City Poetry's Lisa Roberts will be joining us for our Village Community stop on August 11, 2023, from 10:30-12:00 PM. Join a group of creative minds for a poetry-inspired activity.
🎵 Hip Hop Workshop Have you ever been interested in Hip-Hop? We had a wonderfully successful workshop in May, so come check out Chuy Renteria and friends as they share their love of the elements again on August 2 at the HACAP Waterfront Office from 5:15-6:45 PM. Learn a Breakdance routine, practice your graffiti stencil skills, or make some beats with us in our interactive workshop.
♻️ Eco Station Book Mending Activity Antelope is partnering with The Lena Project and The City of Iowa City to create a collaborative booth at the Diversity Market that provides a free platform for eco-minded organizations to connect with the broader community. Our Library Director, Cassi Elton, will be hosting a book mending service activity on July 29 at the booth! Come see us at the market and learn how to make repairs to your well-loved books.
📖 Antelope Book Sale On July 22 at 1122 5th Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240, from 9:00-12:00 PM, come find your next great read! Books are individually priced between 50¢ to $2, or fill a bag for $25. This sale coincides with the Iowa City Citywide Garage Sales. Antelope merchandise will also be available for purchase.
📚 Story Swap On July 21 from 7:00-8:30 PM at Open Heartland, join us for a Story Swap! We'll gather and hear the "seed story" in English and Spanish by Maria Marquez Ponce, a graduate student at the University of Iowa, mom of two little bilingual Iowa Citians, and a native of Mexico. Then, facilitator and Story Swap founder, Jennifer New, will provide prompts for us all to informally share stories in small groups. Come build community through storytelling by hearing memories and experiences shared by people new to us!White chase.
🎶 Kalimbaman & The Likely Suspects On Friday, July 21, at Mercer Park from 3:15-4:45 PM, we will be joined by local musical performer and educator, Kalimbaman and his band! Kalimbaman gives performances and demonstrations on a wide variety of kalimbas (African thumb harps). He has kalimbas from Africa, Jamaica, and the Americas, as well as many that he made himself. Kalimbaman and The Likely Suspects play calypso, reggae, jazz, and folk songs. They will demonstrate and discuss their kalimbas, flutes, cajon, handpan, ukeleles, and various percussion instruments. Audience members will have a chance to play kalimbas and maracas and can make egg shakers to take home. We hope to see you there!
🌳 Beautifying Spaces We're partnering with Backyard Abundance for all of our stops on Wednesday, June 21. We'll learn about how valuable time outdoors in nature is, from sitting near potted plants, hanging out in a local park or exploring the woods, we have ideas for every location! We'll make a nature exploration journal and seed bombs (using native woodland plants) to learn about how we can beautify spaces all over our community.
🏳️🌈 Iowa City Pride The bookmobile will be marching alongside our community partners in the Iowa City Pride Festival Parade on June 17 at noon in Downtown Iowa City. Following the parade we'll be tabling at the festival until 9:00 PM at the Ped Mall. Come celebrate our inclusive community with us!
📚 Spring Cleaning Book Sale We're doing some spring cleaning! Come find your next great read at Antelope Lending Library’s book sale from 9:00-12:00 PM on May 13 at 1122 5th Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240. Books are individually priced between 50¢ to $2, or fill a bag for $25. Kid’s books, young adult books, adult books (fiction & non-fiction), comic, games, and Antelope merchandise will be available.
📚 Book Repair Workshop On May 23 from 5:30-7:30 PM, join Antelope Lending Library Director, Cassi Elton, and learn how to make simple book repairs at home! Participants will learn the names for parts of a book, how to assess basic book damage, learn to reattach loose pages and book covers, and more. You are invited to bring along broken books you'd like to repair. This workshop is designed for mass market books, not antique or fragile items. Meet at East Side Recycling Center's Education Center and register by emailing jwilch@iowa-city.org.

💜 Library Tattoo Flash Fundraiser Together with Velvet Lotus Tattoo, we're planning our second tattoo flash tattoo fundraiser on May 6! The bookmobile will be present at Velvet Lotus Tattoo from 9:00-11:00AM during registration. Tattooing will take place from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM. View the Facebook Event for more information.
